It’s a special two-hander where Mark and Lawrence reflect on the appeal of horror and how the new Monster: Ed Gein Netflix show has to contribute, given that it is not merely a (very loose) presentation of real events, and itself a horror drama, but also a commentary on the Hollywood properties influenced by the Ed Gein murders, including Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Silence of the Lambs. We bring this up to date by including also discussion of the Terrifier films as well as the work of Rob Zombie.

This was intended to be a half-length discussion presented as a bonus episode, but it grew into a full discussion; Sarahlyn and Al will join us next time for discussion of the Alien franchise and then the films of Paul Thomas Anderson (e.g. One Battle After Another).

What is Pretty Much Pop?

Pretty Much Pop brings together philosophers, artists, comedians, and other smart folks to talk about media and how we consume it: TV, film, music, novels, games, comics, comedy, theater, podcasts, and more. Most of what (other) people like is pretty weird when you think about it, so thinking about it is what we do.
