Steve Martin was the biggest comic celebrity in the late ’70s, became a huge movie star, and now delivers gentle comedy and fast banjo licks according to his desired rich guy schedule. In light of the popularity of Only Murders in the Building (which just finished season 4), last March’s Apple TV documentary STEVE! (martin), and his current blockbuster tour, we consider his many talents. Our 50ish hosts Mark and Sarahlyn are all in on this guy, but our 40ish hosts Lawrence and Al are not necessarily tickled.

We touch on his classic comedies, his philosophical yet silly stand-up, his writing, his attempts at drama, and the Only Murders pacing and guest starts. We compare his career with that of Eddie Murphy and Robin Williams. Also, Only Murders vs. Bad Monkey. What do we think of Only Murders’ depiction of podcasting?

What is Pretty Much Pop?

Pretty Much Pop brings together philosophers, artists, comedians, and other smart folks to talk about media and how we consume it: TV, film, music, novels, games, comics, comedy, theater, podcasts, and more. Most of what (other) people like is pretty weird when you think about it, so thinking about it is what we do.
